interior design class question?Q) I am thinking about going back to school, getting my GED, and studying to be an interior designer. How long does it take, and what prerequisites do I need?
A) Some schools require a portfolio review before you may be admitted into their Interior Design program. Basic drawing skills and some drafting will help. Most states now require Interior Designers to be licensed. Check with the governing body of your state or with an advisor at a College which offers a FIDER accredited program (very important). Once you have your degree you will most likely be required to complete an internship with a professional designer or architect before you will take the NCIDQ examination which will then qualify you for your own license....In Texas the total process takes six years (education and employment combined).I am trying to come up with a cardboard design for my interior design class. Any ideas???Q) The design is about me, my personal life, but i don't know how to put it all together...
A) How you move through your living space; your kichem layout, bathroom layout. Not clear from your question whether it has to be a single object, or not. What topic Should I write about for an Interior Design Class?Q) I have to write a 10 page paper and I also have to do a visual but I have no Idea on what to do it any ideas would be appreciated....
its for a special topics class...
A) Write about how psychology is an important factor in interior design. How certain colors and structures and peoples living and work spaces, in general affect them mentally. You could write about different cultures and their interiors. For example, how the Japanese have a very high respect for nature so they barley have any furniture and/or walls (important because this style influenced Frank Lloyd Wright and Mary Cassatt) you wouldn’t run out of information ...Environmental psychology is very interesting alsoInterior design?Q) i'm going to be a sophmore in high school and i am thinking about interior designing. What classes should i be most concerned with taking next year? Like, what should my main focus be towards. What electives should i look for?
A) I just finished my BFA in Interior Design. I went to Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. I would try and take a class that does computer aided drafting. Whether it is with Autocad, 3D-Studio MAX, Photoshop, anything like that. Those would all be helpful. Take an art class, it will help with your drawing skills. If you have a school that does hand drafting classes I would also try to take that. On your own time, draw, draw, draw! Observational drawings (still life) like fruit bowls or flowers in a vase, even a shoe. Anything that will sharpen your drawing abiltiy and make sure to hang onto the work for a portfolio. You'll need one to get into a design school. Good luck!Online Interior Design School?Q) Does anyone know of a good interior design class online? I know they have some that you can do online but I just need some suggestions as to which ones are good...
A) I did the Thomson course, which is now Penn Foster, for an interior decorating course. This was great for me because I am more interested in the finish work rather than town code and drawing plans, etc. I found the price the most affordable for me and you can pay monthly.
You might want to check out the message board at the Interior Design Society as this subject was discussed among several decorators/designers for someone with this same question. Other courses were listed, but it probably all comes down to price, and if you want to be an Interior Designer or an Interior Decorator.
With the Penn Foster course once you pass the exam you are eligible to join Certified Interior Decorators International and use the title of Certified Interior Decorator.what are typical elements of design in a japanese interior design for a middle class home?Q) i am redoing my house and want it to look asian inside on a budget.
A) I tried to do the very same thing and it turned out looking awful. Here is what I did wrong. I went out and bought a bunch of Japanese art and other japanese decorations and it just looked horrible. When doing some more research I found Japanese people dont have a lot of clutter. So you have to be simple and place things around in moderation. Dont paint your walls red and your furniture black!!!! Thats Chinese. I also made that mistake. Japanese tradtional style is bamboo mats..paired with low furniture. Like futons and low tables. Paint colors are very light in color and wood colors are typically light also. Sougi screens are good. Paper lanterns are great too. Places like target sell paper lantern lamps for around $10.00. Small fountains, or even a candle garden would work well. Flower decor would be good too. Like real or faux orchid plants. And lucky bamboo plants are very easy to care for. Also cherry blossoms are Japanese and most craft stores sell beautiful faux cherry blossom braches for flower arrangments. My art in my room wasnt the problem. I found some very nice and cheep Japanese prints from www.art.com I think in total for 3 large pictures and 2 smaller ones I payed about $75.00 in all. That is without frames of course. Frames are cheaper at places like Wal-mart. I hope some of these ideas help you.interior design?Q) i would like to major in interior design and i need help in choosing colleges. i am a sophomore in Southern California. please give me some suggestions...ANYTHING on choosing the right classes, and colleges. i prefer going to a university in southern california that won't be too hard to get in.
i've been thinking about either FIDM or Cal State Long Beach any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
THX!
A) my sister in law got a bachelor's degree in interior design. She recently moved down to Orange County, CA and got a job fairly easily in interior design roughly $35,000 per year.
If I were you I would go to a community college first, it's cheaper and easier to get into. Talk to the career advisor, he should he able to guide you to a study program so that you take the right courses there to transfer onto a four year university. It's easier to get into a university if you already have an associate's degree.
Good luck! What would be a good masters program for someone who has a B.S. in Interior Design?Q) I am currently teaching college CAD and design classes. I never really had much love for the world of design, but I do enjoy teaching. Problem is, my current job wants me to get a masters of some sort, but I am undecided as to what I should get it in. I am currently considering and MBA or possibly a Masters in Art History. More interior design would be an obvious choice, but I want something more practical...any ideas?
A) Georgia Tech has a master's program in Architecture that many Interior Design graduates choose to pursue. I think it would be very valuable, especially if you ever want to venture out on your own, and get licensed as a registered designer.what's a good minor for interior design? what other classes would be helpful to take?Q) what kind of things do I need to be good at interior design?
A) Definitely visual art. Other helpful courses could include business/entrepreneurship, drafting & design, computers (to create designs to show clients, and communicate with clients), housing studies, and communication.
Of course you can always choose to minor in something unrelated. I have a friend who wants to be an interior designer, and she is doing a double major in art and English.
I hope this helps! How can I take a few classes in interior design without signing up for a degree?Q) I just want a little background to help me with my career in the future. I'd rather take a few classes than read books on the subject because I feel that the classes can be added to my resume. If anyone can help I would be greatful!!
A) A lot of colleges will offer courses to people as a non-articulated student. Meaning you pay for the course and books, but at a discounted price because you are not getting credit for it. Generaly they will only allow you in to the class if their is room available however, and some ivy league type schools may not.
