Electronics circuits Questions and AnswersAnybody know of any good books to help teach my son electronics?Q) he is 12 and has a basic electronics kits, but would like to learn more about electronics and circuit building etc.
Thanks
A) Google these
Teach Yourself Electronics.
Art of Electronics - Horowitz.
Maplin magazines
Plenty of stuff on the web.
An experimental project kit would be good too.
eg 30 little things to build from light detector to radio etc.
I am deeply troubled by this Q, because I went through this 35 years ago. In that time the electronics industry blossomed and died. Electronics manufacturing in the west seems pretty pointless in most cases. Nowadays products have to be designed very quickly, and on the market in months, being made in huge quantities in China.
Of course, if he's interested, is great to support him, and we will always need engineers, but this might be a stepping stone to something else by the time he's thinking of uni.Where can i learn how to make and modify simple circuits?Q) I have a book that shows how to take parts from electronics and make them into useful gadgets but you need knowledge of simple circuits and LEDs, resistors etc.
Does anyone know where i can pick up suck skills, maybe an ebook I could download or a good website?
Thanks! :)
A) If you go to your local RadioShak, you can find some of their electronics experiments kits such as a 160-in-1 or 500-in-1. Contained in the kit are all of the necessary electronic components with the exception of batterys, instructions on how to set up the experiments, detailed descriptions of the circuits, etc... The projects or experiments can easily be disassembled and all of the parts re-used for future experiments.TRANSLATION !! is my cover letter correct ??? I am French !!?Q) Dear Sir, Madam,
I am currently a second year student in the institute of technology in Saint-Etienne, France. I work hard to have my diploma in technology and I am writing to apply for a training period in the industry.
During my studies, I had been used to handle electronics circuits, motors, automatism applications and industrial informatics languages like C++, VHDL (Verylog Hardware Description Language).
A placement in your firm offer me the possibility to develop my capacities and to be confronted with the real industrial life. I will bring you my bloom, my energy and my dynamism.
I am used to working within a team and carry out a project don’t frighten me.

100zanfazay.can anybody please help me with my project in electronics with vb.net involved?Q) it's all about an attendance system in the classroom, where the students must register first with their name, student number, and mobile phone numbers of their parents. their fingerprints must also be included in the registry.
now, 20 minutes after the class starts (let's say after 8am) the pc must automatically send a message to the parents via mobile phone of the students who didn't log-in. then the doors must then auto-locked (i plan to use solenoid).
please give me some links relating on my project... i'm searching too but it's giving me a hard time because i'm not yet familiar with making programs concerning with integration of pc to circuits, though i'm using vb.net already, beginner stage... sniff...
A) WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR WIRING OR SOFTWARE YOU NEED TO BE A BIT MORE SPECIFIC IN YOUR REQUIREMENTSWhat is the best Electronics simulation software?Q) I design and build electronic projects.
What is the best software out there that can simulate a circuit before actually building it.
And this should include pcb layout up to two or more layers..
Digital clocks are my favourite to deisgn..using logic gates and display drivers..
I already know how to design with ver large scale..but there is something beautiful about ttl and nixie tubes..thanks for info...
A) How much money do you have? How serious are you?
There are any number of tools for part of what you are trying to do, some of which are free AND good. If you need professional logic simulation tools, download either Xilinx or Altera web design tools. They come with schematic libraries for pretty much all TTL parts and are "relatively" easy to get into. You can design a complete FPGA project with these free tools and once you know FPGAs, you might not want to go back to soldering discrete logic ICs, anyway. And given the cost of $10 for an FPGA which will easily let you design the world's most outrageous LED clock, in terms of economics you can't beat programmable logic. Not to mention the fact that "FPGA design experience and VHDL/Verilog skills" on your resume might land you a really great engineering job while "LED clocks from TTL chips" won't do it any longer in a world where the street kids of Bangalore are learning to design VLSI.
But seriously... FPGAs are a lot of fun!
The mentioned SPICE simulators can only do very limited digital and mixed mode simulation. They are great for analog circuits, though, but that does not seem to be what you are doing?
I can't give you any good leads to board layout software. EVERYTHING that is out there for free is essentially crap. And I mean everything. It is a sad state of the open source world that they have not been able to make a single useful schematic/layout tool.
If you can spare about a million dimes ($10k-$100k), you can buy the real mixed-signal tools and professional circuit layout software, although that will be overkill for you. Mentor and Cadence are the companies to go to. But bring money or they won't even talk to you.
Sadly in EDA the old saying that you get what you pay for is almost true.Where can I exchange an iPod without a receipt? (what store has the best exchange policy on electronics?)?Q) I have an brand new unopened 2GB iPod Nano with no receipt (given to me by a client). I want to exchange it and get credit for a 30 or 80GB video iPod.
I've tried to exchange it at Circuit City, Best Buy, Walmart, and Target. Nobody will take it without a receipt.
Does anyone know a place where I can do this and at least get store credit or exchange it for another iPod?
A) no store will take it without a receipt, they will think that you stole it and are trying to get money for it. your best bet would be to sell it on ebay.where can I find information on circuit-bending a theremin?Q) I have a theremin that needs to be assembled. I have little electronics expiriance. I would also like to circuit bend the theremin. Any ideas?
circuit bending is best described in this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circuit_bending
thanks for answering!!
A) check out thereminworld.com - lots of circuits, theremin builders, and electronics info there.Stannah stair lift circuit diagram.?Q) Does anyone know where I can get circuit diagrams for a Stannah stair lift. I am an electronics engineer trying to repair a stair lift for a disabled relative.
Any help would be much apreciated.
A) Dont have a drawing, but i'm a lift engineer and have worked on stair lifts. 1st check you have a supply, it normally charges a battery housed under the chair carriage. If battery fully charged, the most common faults are the safety micro switches which is a series safety chain, they are under the footplate, arm rests etc. also check the stopping limit switches may be fitted behind the chair or top and bottom of the running track, hope this is of some help to you. You could also speak to stannah, they are always very helpful..I have a Bosch washing machine (V721) that I need to repair. Where can I get a circuit diagram from.?Q) The problem is in the electronics, I can tell it is fairly simple fault but without a circuit diagram it's impossible. Has anyone even ever managed to get a circuit diagram for these things? If so how?
A) http://www.bshappliancecare.com/bshspares.htmlhas anyone used latches as short term memory in control applications and if so how?Q) Right this is an electronics question and i`m new to this but am developing a computer controlled stepper motor drive system .(had some old printers for parts) and I had this idea to make a plugable system so expansion could become easier as my interest grows and uses are found. The idea is to use latching ics like the jk flip flop to collect data from the bus and set the busy signal until the stepper has done its bit and is ready to move again. This would allow the p.c. to do something more interesting instead while the real world does it`s thing. so the real question is how as all the books i've read dont cover this form of application for that i.c.(or do but i'm not smart enough to realise). so a circuit diagram would be groovy but a very good description may well surfice.
look forward to hearing from you soon bye
A) Not a bad idea, but you do need to learn a bit more about control systems, bus (and CPU) interfaces, etc.
In the generic 'bus interface', the CPU provides some sort of 'device address' as well as data and a 'write' strobe. Your interface must be able to decode the 'device address' and recognize it as being the address of itself, AND this with the write strobe, and use that signal to either enable a latch or clock a 'J-K' or 'D' flip-flop to hold the data until the rest of your interface can do something with it.
If you're thinking about stepper motors, you might want to look into what are called 'state-machines' and then consider 'registered PAL' logic. These are the usual 'weapons of choice' for smaller bus interfaces and stepper motor drivers.
Another good place to go for ideas is the Microchip website. They have a ton of information on their 'PIC' series microcontrollers and lots of applications literature and notes (including schematics) for stepper motor controllers (among many other things ☺). They're an excellent resource and their parts are both readily available (Digi-Key, Mouser, etc.) and relatively inexpensive.
They also have many megabytes of --FREE-- software (compilers, assemblers, etc. as well as a very slick emulator package with an integrated software development environment) that can be had for the effort it takes to download them.

I would like to discuss Electronics and Electronics circuits, does Y! answers have a place?Q) I would like to discuss Electronics and Electronic circuits, does Yahoo! answers have a place to discuss and ask questions, or do I need to look elsewhere?
Sorry ToLive, I am not understanding "egurukool or egurukul is a site suitable for you. CHeck it out. Good luck! " I am not sure what and where are egurukool or egurukul?
A) The Science->Engineering category would probably be a good fit.

A) hi.. wat is meant by current sink in electronics circuits, i need a circuit of current sink by using UJT?Q) this current sink is comming under the analog integrated circuits. i need a equations for the circuit also.
A) An electronic component can either "sink" or "source" current. If it sources current, then current is flowing away from it to the system, if it sinks current then current is flowing to the component, from the system.
So for example, if you had a microcontroller with a pin that could either be 0V or 5V and you had a 1K resistor tied to that pin, and the other side of the resistor was 5V. When the pin of the microcontroller went to 0V, the microcontroller would be sinking 5mA of current.
Now reverse the scenario and say you have a microcontroller with a pin that has a resistor tied to it and on the other side of the resistor is ground(0V). When the pin of the micro goes to 5V, it will source 5mA of current.Which is the best software for designing electronics circuits available for free download?A) Try the Student Version of PSpice.

A) type in what you just ask and go from there good luckWhat is a good book for analog circuits or electronics in general?A) One of my faves:
"The Art of Electronics", by Horowitz and Hill
This book is probably on the shelf of 95% of electrical engineers, who are electronic designers. It is a great all-around book for electronic design and it covers a lot of subjects very well.
.Anyone know where I can get a free or cheap electronics circuit diagram for a Thumper?Q) Something to make low level bass like thumps out of a speaker(s)?
Somewhat like the Dripper circuit here http://www.techlib.com/electronics/gags.html except I need thumps and at a user control rate of repetition. (No light trigger needed.)
I want to feel the Earth move, oh, well close to it :-)
I am taking the term "Thumper" from the Sci-Fi movie Dune, but I don't expect to attract big worms!!!
BTW Over in my other question "I would like to discuss Electronics and Electronics circuits, does Y! answers have a place?" (see link below) someone suggested "egurukool or eguruku" but I have not idea what that is and if it can help me with this question.
