Baby shower gift Questions and AnswersBaby Shower, anyone here had it? When? And what do ppl do in a baby shower, beside gifts giving?Q) A few friends are planning to throw a baby shower for me (I'm 32 wks), but some also say that they should wait until the baby actually arrives.
It's my first and I don't really feel it was necessary and I don't want to look like I'm asking for presents or anything. But I don't want to hurt their feelings either.
I've looked it up the internet and got some info on baby shower, but am still unsure if I want one.
Did any of you have one? When and how was it done?
Tons of thanks.
A) I had a ball. I received all kinds of cute outfits I would have never found on my own. Plus sexy lingerie for after the baby & gag gifts.
It's really just a way for friends to express their excitement over your new addition. Plus a way to have a memorable time together before the baby comes & takes you away for awhile to the world of dirty diapers, stress and little time for anything else.
The cake was delicious and the fellowship was fantastic. Just us gaggle of girls getting together and doing silly things. This is one time that unless you're in real need the gifts don't really matter as much as the thoughtfulness. People aren't trying to outdo each other just be a part of a major event in your life. Part of the fun was oohing, awing or laughing over the various gifts. The comaraderie. Things that are said that under a normal setting might be left unsaid.
Mine was a surprise but 29 yrs later it still brings back warm memories of people I once knew and causes me to lift a prayer for their well being (I've moved several times since then). I didn't need it either but I'm so grateful I was blessed with such good friends.
Be gracious and let your friends do this for you. No one thinks you're just trying to get gifts. I have as much fun or more shopping for someone's baby shower than the receipient gets in receiving it. Unlike a wedding shower it isn't expected to be expensive, just thoughtful.baby gift.....something different///any ideas???Q) One of my closest friends is having a baby (sex unknown) and we are holding a baby shower for her. Iwant to buy a gift for either the baby or the parents that is different and original. I have already bought a book that meant something to me as a child for the baby's library I'll spend up to £50.Any ideas????
A) A Diaper Cake!! (A Nappy Cake!) I always take a large diaper cake to a baby shower because they are so special. Check out:

First, everyone loves them. This week I took one to a shower for my BodyStep instructor. Ladies just crowd around them and ask a million questions. They are great conversation pieces. Second, they are gorgeous centerpieces at a baby shower, and they can even be used to play a guessing game - give a prize to whoever can guess most accurately how many diapers and what supplies the cake is constructed with.
And the best part, is that mom-to-be gets to take the centerpiece home as a very unique and memorable gift, and she now has a landslide of diapers and supplies for the new baby. In a year, she won't remember who gave her the onesies or the baby bottles, but you can bet she will remember your diaper cake and smile!!
This website has lots of gender neutral cakes to choose from! This is my favorite gift for an expectant mother! Make sure you check out the Poundcakes and the Diaper-Only Cakes, they are pretty inexpensive. Happy hunting!!
Baby shower gift?Q) a coworker/friend is having a baby shower and her theme for the baby is winnie the pooh. i'm steering clear of anything that everyone else might buy her locally (walmart, target, babies r us, etc etc) and am having no luck finding unique WTP baby friendly gifts online... any suggestions/sites/ideas..... for the actual baby shower i'm making adorable cookies designed in a baby theme.. but i'd like something to give her as a gift for the baby... i'm fairly creative and wouldn't even mind making her something but I do not sew or knit :( i know i'm probably making too big a deal of this but figured i'd throw up the question to see if anyone can help :) thanks
A) I am like you and hate to be lumped into the same gift everyone else is giving. I am finding that some of my better received gifts have been books in their theme. Most people don't think to buy a newborn books. Barnes and Noble has 914 different selections of Pooh books so you should be able to find something in you price range. Look at number 5. It is the 75th anniversary complete tales and poems. It is under $30.00 so it is affordable. If your budget is more or less you can adjust what books to buy.Baby shower gift....but do i get the same thing for step son?Q) Im having a "surprise" baby shower in January....and i want to get my hubby something really special, i was going to get him a book that he writes in from the time the baby is born and on, telling about the things they used to do together, first family outing...blah blah....but my dilema is
My hubby has a 6 year old son, should i get him 2 books one for our baby and one for his son. Its a gift from "the baby"....would it be selfish or mean if i didnt get one for him to fill out for his mush older son? I dont think i should but i dont want to be "mean" Its is for OUR baby shower....i dunno what do you guys think?
Stepson's going to be part of the shower and everything, but what im asking is theres a book called "daddy, tell me one more story" that im getting for my hubby from the baby.........should i get the same book and give it to him for his other child? or give him something differnt or nothing at all it is a baby shower for the new baby, his son already had 3 showers he was invovled in (1 his own and 2 for 2 brothers from his mom)
A) I think you should get him something so he feels like he's part of the process. Instead of something a like the book for the Dad, why don't you get the son a book about being a big brother so he can get excited about the baby too. I like the idea of the book you are getting your hubby. What a great thing for your baby to have when he or she gets older.Baby shower gift idea for another baby girl???Q) A friend of mine is having a baby shower again!! She is having another baby girl after having one a year and a half ago. This will be her fourth child and all girls. This time it's a princess theme. She has plenty of toys, girl clothes, baby story books, and every thing else you can imagine. I want to try to be more creative than giving the usual diapers, wipes, lotion etc...Something that can be used for a long time. I thought about a gift certificate for her and her husband to go out to eat but that can only be used once...any ideas?? Thought about making a diaper cake but I want to do something different. I'm in a creative mood but no ideas. Ohhh and by the way...the shower is in 1 and a half days, so not much time. Thanks in advance for your brilliant ideas!!!
A) how about this baby picture frame, one picture for each month
http://www.dazzleconcepts.com/servlet/the-250/Baby%27s-First-Year-Wall/Detailquick baby shower gift?Q) what's an easy, cheap, original baby shower gift I could pick up today on my way to my friend's baby shower?
I'm already throwing her a party for her and her friends, so that's the biggest gift, but i wanted something to bring to her family's shower. any ideas?? thanks!
A) Very nice of you to throw the shower. Best thing you can do is think of mommy. Go and buy her a maternity night gown for the hospital or some type of bath and body works fragrances for her hospital bag. She will love it---everyone forgets about mommy.Baby shower gift?Q) I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE MY OWN BABY SHOWER GIFT- MY IDEA IS A BABY TOPIARY- I SAW IT IN WOMANS WORLD MAGIZINE A LONG TIME AGO AND CAN NOT REMEMBER ALL THE DETAILS- I HAVE A BABY NOVELTY CONTAINER FOR THE BASE AND WOULD LIKE TO MAKE THE TOP WITH BABY SOCKS DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS ON THE STEM OF IT AND OR HOW TO TACK THE SOCKS ON BESIDES USING A STYRO FOAM BALL AND STRAIGHT PINS ALL OPINONS WELCOME THANKS
A) 1. Select a twisted branching dry stick from a nature hike or a hobby store.
2.. Use thick glitter glue (Walmart, crayons/markers section). Buy red, yellow and green. On a glass kitchen plate, mix the glitter glues so that you have a pile of green, a pile of yellowish green, and a pile of brown-green (mix all three colors a little). Use your fingers and smear the twisted branch with the glitter glue. Start at the base with the browner color, then green then yellow green. The variety of color really enhances the look of this gift. Let it dry over night.
3. Cut out from yellow poster board tiny leaf shapes about the size of a baby's foot. Make sure that the leaves have a bit of a stem part. On one side, place a pretty sticker and on the other side, in lovely handwriting, write a message of love for the baby, like little blessings. Use different colored glitter pens for this. Decorate around the edge of the "blessings" with green-glitter pen drawn ivy chains. The glitter pen ink is gooey and the artwork ivy and message can smear, so blot with a paper towel and let dry over night. Then, the next day, with a cheap watercolor brush, lightly coat one side of each of the leaves with white Elmer's glue. Let dry. Turn over and coat the other side, taking care not to smear the glitter pen ink with too heavy of a drag with the brush. Let dry. When the leaves are all dry, use a single hand-held hole punch (Walmart) to make a clean, tidy hole at the top of the leaves where they will be attached to the "tree".
4. Cut slender sage green and gold ribbons into ten inch lengths, a set of one green and one gold for each leaf.
5. When the leaves and twisted branch are thoroughly dry, slip a baby sock over each leaf. No matter what what color the socks are, the yellow poster board shows through a bit to give all the socks a unified look. And, the artwork and writing and stickers somehow give the leaves a realistic touch of texture.
6. Thread the sage green and gold ribbons through the hole-punched holes on each leaf. Draw the sock full on the leaf so that the cuffs extend past the "stem" of the leaf and then wrap and tie the ribbons around the stem, securing the sock and cinching it in to mold to the shape of the leaf.
7. Decorate your tree then with all the leaves by tieing them by their ribbons here and there in clumps of two and three pointing up and down and here and there.
7. Secure the base of the tree in a piece of styrofoam in the container and pack around it yellow and green fluffy tissue paper. Ta da!
8. The blessings or love messages or words of advice on the cards are really a nice surprise and people hang the leaves decoratively in the baby's room.Baby shower gift?Q) What's a good baby shower gift for a woman who already has a child of the same sex that is not too much older and has undoubtedly saved all the stuff? I'm sure this baby shower is more of just a fun celebration for friends and she's not registered anywhere, so what would be something fun and not too over the top?
A) I think something great would be creating your own gift basket for the person. Get them an assortment of things, like....baby shampoo, baby lotion, baby-safe Q-tips, hand sanitizer (so they don't have to wash their hands so much), diapers, wipes, etc. Essential items like these are things they will need that most don't think about getting. What baby shower gift should I make?Q) I have been invited to my cousin's baby shower. This is her first baby and the family are excited. I have decided to make a gift suitable for the baby in its first six months. I only have limited funts to do this. What do you think I should make? The gift has to be creative, easy to make and suitable for the newborn baby! Thanks.
A) google "diaper cake" it is a super cute! You can set a limit to spend 15 bucks and make it adorable and totally memorable! start with this one! http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Diaper-Cake have fun!baby shower gift???Q) What is the best gift you have ever got at your baby shower. A friend of mine is having 4 different baby showers not to mention she has already bought most of what she needs herself. she has bought enough clothes for him for the nest year. she has even been buying diapers when the go on sale. What do you buy some one that already has everything??Ideas please
A) Try getting her things she will need later. Most of the stuff people get at showers is for the immediate future, i.e., crib, bouncer, car seat, clothes, etc. Some things that I look at now and wish I had put on my registry are safety items (gates, outlet plugs, etc.), toys that are for an older baby, sippy cups (and more sippy cups :), baby/toddler spoons, wipes are always needed, books for the baby etc.
One of the best gifts I've ever received is the baby bjorn plastic bib (kiddopotomus makes one too). I swear, I use this thing at every meal, it's fabulous.Baby Shower Gift?Q) My husband's colleague's wife is having a baby and we are invited to her baby shower. What is the appropriate gift to give? I don't want to spend more than $25-$30. I know we can give clothes, bottle, toys etc. I really want to give clothes. The problem is they don't know the gender of the baby and they don't have a registry. I went to a few stores and all they had was either blue or pink colored clothes. What can I give that they would really like.
A) If you really want to get clothes, try looking for organic cotton baby clothes. Most of the time, they will come in a natural color. Before I found out what I was having I bought a lot of natural, beige and white colored baby clothes (I don't like yellow and mint). You could get a sleeper and a receiving blanket. Or a great gift is a swaddler/sleep sack. Kiddopottamus makes an organic cotton sleep sack and it sells for about $15 (Babies-R-Us has them). Halo makes an organic sleep sack with a removable swaddler which runs around $25.
Do you have time to order something from the Internet? You will find some great things to choose from and some good deals.Unique baby shower gift?Q) I'm looking for a unique baby shower gift for a girlfriend of mine. She & her husband are due to have baby #2 (a boy..they have a 3 year old girl) and some friends are throwing her a small shower. She doesn't know about it, and hasn't registered anywhere. She has all the basics from when her daughter was a baby. I don't want to get clothes because that's what everyone else is probably going to get. I already got her a sling (she likes mine that I still use with my 1 year old). Any ideas?
Thanks for the suggestions, but please don't reply with gift cards and diapers...they don't need the help like that. I'm specifically looking for something unique, special and definitely for the baby. My friend doesn't need anything:)
A) gift certificate to get family photos done :)
