Baby Shower, anyone here had it? When? And what do ppl do in a baby shower, beside gifts giving?

Q) A few friends are planning to throw a baby shower for me (I'm 32 wks), but some also say that they should wait until the baby actually arrives. It's my first and I don't really feel it was necessary and I don't want to look like I'm asking for presents or anything. But I don't want to hurt their feelings either. I've looked it up the internet and got some info on baby shower, but am still unsure if I want one. Did any of you have one? When and how was it done? Tons of thanks.

A) I had a ball. I received all kinds of cute outfits I would have never found on my own. Plus sexy lingerie for after the baby & gag gifts. It's really just a way for friends to express their excitement over your new addition. Plus a way to have a memorable time together before the baby comes & takes you away for awhile to the world of dirty diapers, stress and little time for anything else. The cake was delicious and the fellowship was fantastic. Just us gaggle of girls getting together and doing silly things. This is one time that unless you're in real need the gifts don't really matter as much as the thoughtfulness. People aren't trying to outdo each other just be a part of a major event in your life. Part of the fun was oohing, awing or laughing over the various gifts. The comaraderie. Things that are said that under a normal setting might be left unsaid. Mine was a surprise but 29 yrs later it still brings back warm memories of people I once knew and causes me to lift a prayer for their well being (I've moved several times since then). I didn't need it either but I'm so grateful I was blessed with such good friends. Be gracious and let your friends do this for you. No one thinks you're just trying to get gifts. I have as much fun or more shopping for someone's baby shower than the receipient gets in receiving it. Unlike a wedding shower it isn't expected to be expensive, just thoughtful.

Q) One of my closest friends is having a baby (sex unknown) and we are holding a baby shower for her. Iwant to buy a gift for either the baby or the parents that is different and original. I have already bought a book that meant something to me as a child for the baby's library I'll spend up to £50.Any ideas????

This week I took one to a shower for my BodyStep instructor. Ladies just crowd around them and ask a million questions. They are great conversation pieces. Baby Shower?

Q) I hope Im asking this question in the right category...My apologies if not. My sister-in-law's baby shower is this Saturday and I am the so called"spokes-person", you know handing her all the gifts, reading the cards, making the hat, and I have no idea what lil baby shower games to play...Any suggestions would be appreciated p.s. it's not ur reg baby shower, all the guys are going to be there, and liquor, and a d.j. Baby Shower= a party for the mother-to-be, friends and family get together, and bring gifts for the unborn baby...It's a very nice time, and helps the mother-to-be out tremendously w/ buying thins for her baby

A) Well, it may be too late for this, but you may be able to call people. My sister did this awesome thing for me, it was sort of a diaper raffle. You tell people there will be a gift basket and to bring either diapers or wipes for a ticket. The more diapers they bring, the more tickets they get. They filled a basket with gardening supplies, it was gorgeous. I have a six month old and I am still using the diapers and wipes I got from my shower. It's awesome. If you can pull it off, totally do it. Good Luck. That sounds like a fun baby shower!

UK ONLY: Baby Showers?

Q) My sister is pregnant, and I have offered to host a baby shower for her in the summer (August time!).. Anyway, i don't know what a baby shower involves, and either of us have ever been to one!! lol So any tips and advice from A-Z of hosting a baby shower would be grateful...!! Also, which companies do gift list other than MotherCare? Is it okay to have a gift list or is it not the 'done' thing?? Cheers! Just to add that the baby shower will be BEFORE the baby is born.. x Constructive answers ONLY!!

A) I'm a Yankee....but I have a page on my site that might help you out. It has some great SENTIMENTAL activities on there that are great for celebrating baby!! I am putting the link below. Here is my general advice. Pick a theme that works with mom's taste and baby's nursery decor. Make a guest list....plan on 75% of those invited antending. Send invites out AT LEAST three weeks ahead of time. Make sure to put a RSVP reminder in there! Etiquette says not to include the registry info....let the guests call the hostess to find out where momma is registered, if need be! One week out....enforce RSVP and find out if people are coming (if they didn't RSVP). Better for food and game planning to have a good number to go off of! Food: Have the shower between lunch and dinner. Serve veggies and dip, crackers and cheese, tiny sandwiches, punch and cake (coffee and water, too!) Plan for the shower to last 2.5 -- 3 hours. About half of that can be games/activities. The first thirty minutes should be social mingling. The last thirty minutes should be gift opening and more mingling. The fifteen minutes before gifts should be for dessert. Don't overplan and be flexible. Gift opening you need to get to....the 3rd activity is optional. Make your own invites if you are creative....use great ribbon, cardstock and cute stickers!!! Diaper Cakes (Nappy Cakes) are a great decoration!! --------Hope This Helped!!-----

wedding shower helpp?

Q) ok i want to have a wedding shower.. do my bridesmaids pay for this and choose where to have it? also, what can i do to minimize the boring part of opening all the gifts. ive had a baby shower i know how boring this is for my guests and how uncomfortable it is for me because i know everyones ready to get it over with and leave. every shower ive been to is like this.. so what can i do to avoid this problem.. or how to avoid even opening gifts while my guests are there ? is this possible or rude? helpp will anyone think its rude if i dont open gifts at the shower? and what kind of activities can we do instead of opening gifts at the shower? how will everyone know im not opening gifts while they're there. i didnt want to plan it myself.. i just wanted to see what everyone thought about the gift opening at the shower. i already know my bridesmaids are throwing it.i just didnt know if they knew they're supposed to pay if they throw it.

A) Usually the Maid or Matron of honor plans and organizes and delegates all the bridesmaids to do certain things so no one has to pay for the whole thing. I had the same problem when I threw a bridal shower and yes unfortunately NO ONE was cool with her not unwrapping the presents. Although she just unwrapped it fairly quick and did not make a big deal, we did cake at the same time and served champagne as well so that no one got bored. It isn't rude to not carefully open everything just don't doodle. Also do the presents early on before the games so that way you get it over with before they get bored. I also organized such a fun game, I had all the invitees bring a nightie or pj's in a brown bag and had the bride open them and try to guess whos they were. It turned into a crazy ordeal it was so much fun and it was nice to have something besides silly shower games.

Is there a polite way to ask people to include a reciept with their baby shower gift?

Q) With my first baby, I recieved several duplicates of things plus things that I already had. Don't get me wrong, I am very appreciative of the thought that my family and friends put into getting my baby a gift. But with this baby and baby shower, I would like to be able to exchange things that I cannot use for things that we need. Last time, hardly anyone included reciepts so I ended up with a bunch of stuff that I ended up giving away or selling at a garage sale. I hate to just throw away a good gift that someone cared enough to give me when I could still use the money from it to go towards something else for the baby.

A) Asking for a recipt with a gift isn't mean! its as simple as that. In the invites or something, just ask : It would be very considerate if you would please put recipt with gift. Thank you! Hope I helped.

What is a good baby shower gift?

Q) My friend is having her baby in July/August and her baby shower is coming up. She's 17, and she's having a girl. What would be a good gift to get taking into consideration her age and it being a girl?

A) most people think of a newborn when they have a baby shower. the best thing that i could think of right now are toys, bathtoys and clothing from 9 months and older because most people get the 0-6 months clothing. a jumperoo is an excellent gift. my baby had it since 4 months and is now 7 months.and still uses it. a bumbo seat is cool to . check those out on line. neat gift for a decent price. size four diapers seem to be the ones babies are in the longest so thats always an option. a snowsuit might be something noone is thinking of also but hard to find this time of year. smilesaver plan or any plan to a photography studio like jc penny or sears ect. for a year or two of portraits without sitting fees to take the important pictures of the baby..

what are some gift ideas for a baby shower?

Q) i need to get a baby shower gift for my friends. they are having a girl. i can't spend a lot because i'm only 17. my job don't start until fall. so i'm limited on money. what are some good but not real expensive gifts for a baby girl? if it matters this is the first baby they are having.

A) Don't worry about spending a lot of money; no one expects you to be a millionaire! A cute outfit would be appreciated--you have no idea how many clothes a baby goes through in a day, between what comes out of its mouth and what comes out of its butt! Go to your local Kmart or similar store and pick out a cute outfit from the baby section--you can also buy a set of bibs (day of the week is cute) or onesies. My favorite baby gift is a nice bib or set of bibs, and I write on the card, "Life's messy. Wear a bib."

How much should I spend for a baby shower gift?

Q) We are throwing a surprise baby shower for a high school friend. We all don't know the gender of the baby yet because the couple do not want to know in advance and want to be surprised when the baby comes. We all agreed to just get them a gift card so they can get what they really need. What is the acceptable price range nowadays?

A) Personally, I typically spend around $20 myself. Although, since I had my own child, I tend to do much more cuz I like helping out since I got so much and I'm very grateful for everything I received when I was pregnant. Or, you could also cut back a little on how much you spend now, and get another gift for after the baby is born when everyone knows if it's a boy or girl.

What is the best gift for a baby shower that i can use?

Q) WHat is the best baby shower gift preferably under 100 dollars that my grandma could get me that will be special that i can use not just for the baby that will be memorable because i don't know how long she will be around.....i don't want anything the baby will grow out of ?

A) Have her write a book of advice and stories from raising your parent and stories about spoiling you. Also have her get you a gift certificate to a portrait place then when your baby is born have a generational photo taken (you and your baby your parent and her)

How much to spend for a baby shower gift?

Q) My old best friend is having a baby shower soon. I am not sure how much is a good/acceptable amount to spend on the gift as I have never been to a baby shower before. We only talk about once a month now, but were really close. I am a full time student so don't have much income coming in.. What do you think is good? P.S. She is registered at Target

A) Just get her what you can afford. Trust me anything that you can give her, she will be thankful for. My sugestion is buy her diapers and wipes. You can NEVER have too many diapers and wipes!

Do you know how to wrap a baby shower gift in a unique way?

Q) im going to a baby shower and i really want to wrap the gift in a different way. The gift is mostly clothes, and a teddy bear. thanks!

A) You can wrap the gift in a baby blanket or crib blanket & tie with a big fabric ribbon. I just gave a baby gift (an outfit, and a teddy bear) and zipped them inside a fabric diaper stacker, A friend put all clothes and a set of towels inside a lined cane basket.

Is this acceptable as a baby shower gift?

Q) A girl I work with got garage sale clothes from her mother-in-law at her baby shower. They weren't washed & still had the little stickers on them. She gave these to her as her gift & that was all. Is this acceptable? I think it's okay to buy garage sale clothes, but not to give them as a baby shower gift. This lady is NOT on a tight budget. She has money.

A) That's what I did for my friend..of course I did take the stickers off, sprayed them down w/febreeze and folded them nicely and put them in a bag...some of the items still had tags but I got onesies for 25 cents and she got a huge bag full of clothes, hats, bibs and shoes. I did buy a few things at the store. As long as the items look good and not really used then you should be fine. I buy things off ebay for b-day or xmas gifts too and they are used but work just as fine. Just depends on the person.

What to give for a baby shower gift (mother not registered)?

Q) I'm invited to a baby shower (the baby is a girl) and the mother didn't register anywhere. I don't have children so I don't really know what to buy her. She has a 3 yr old boy.
